In the world of chatting via social media platforms, there are several messaging services that provide contact with friends.
WhatsApp messenger is a Facebook-owned freeware, cross-platform messaging service. WhatsApp allows for text messaging, voice messages, Whatsapp video calls, document sharing, audio sharing, location and so much more!
The App runs on mobile devices as the WhatsApp messenger app but also on desktop computers as the WhatsApp web which we would look at in this article.
The WhatsApp was founded by ‘Brian Acton‘ and ‘Jan Koum‘ in the year 2009. The dual intellectuals were in their thirties when they began working on the WhatsApp messenger after they left their jobs at Yahoo, and couldn’t secure another one at Facebook.
After Jan’s realization of the app industry’s potential a few months after the app store was launched. He thought to build an app that could show status, and with the help of an IOS developer, Igor Solomennikov, who is a Russian developer, they were able to pave their way through. The app was developed and Incorporated as the ‘WhatsApp Inc’ in California on the 24th of February 2009.
Just after Apple launched the Push Ad-on notifications update ( The essence of this update was to remind users when they are not using an application). So Jan took advantage of this and updated the WhatsApp to send push notifications to friends whenever a user changes his status on the application.
Soon, after the 2.0 versions of the app were created, WhatsApp became an app with high utility and it’s users skyrocketed up to 250,000 in few months. The version was later submitted to the App store on the 27th of Aug 2019. It is important to also note that the WhatsApp business first model was a paid one.
By February 2013 the number of users was at 2million. Exactly one year after that, Facebook bought WhatsApp for a massive $19 billion after which Facebook added some extra features.
